General
The telemetric seismological network of the Laboratory of Geophysics of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki consists of 48 stations. The central Seismological Station in Thessaloniki an the first seven (7) other stations were installed by the end of 1980 and the operation of this initial network started on January 1st. 1981. It must be noted that this network was the first seismological network in the wider balkan area, whose operation was supported by computers. The first installation sites included the sites of Sohos (SOH), Litochoro (LIT), Griva (GRG), Paliouri (PAIG), Kentriko (KNT), Ouranoupoli (OUR), Serres (SRS) and Thessaloniki (THE).
Since 1981 the original network has been expanded by the installation of additional new stations (stations map). Most stations are equipped with a Broadband CMG-3ESP (100s-50Hz), or CMG-6Ξ€ (30s-50Hz), CMG-40Τ (1s-100Hz) and CMG-40Τ (30s-50Hz) seismometer, using a JANUS controller and TRIDENT Digitizer by Nanometrics. There are also Short-Period Analog stations equipped with 2 horizontal and 1 vertical. S-13 Teledyne – Geotech seismometers. Moreover, TRILLIUM 120P and 120C seismometers and some TAURUS and HRD controllers are also in use. The signal transmission to the central Seismological Station in Thessaloniki is achieved through ADSL connections. telemetry (telephon lines), sattelitte links or wireless UHF.
